When I bought this monstrous jar of Naked Pea Protein powder I thought to myself - I wonder how long it'll take me to consume it?
5 lbs of plain pea protein powder is no joke - but when combined with other superfoods and sugar free sweeteners the task becomes much less daunting. Believe me! This blend is a sure-fire way you will get tons of nutrition, superfoods and detoxification bang for your buck and be left feeling full and satisfied!
But why pea protein? You'll find, in fact, many plant based products using pea protein as a protein filler - from pancakes to crackers to breakfast cereals - it's a plain but simple way to boost protein content without using whey or animal by products.
Here are a few things you'll want to know so you can reap the benefits:
Pea protein is a high-quality protein and a great source of iron. It can aid muscle growth, weight loss and heart health.
Pea protein contains all nine essential amino acids that your body cannot create and must get from food.
It's free from allergens
Studies show that pea protein powder can help build muscle when paired with resistance training.
Research has found that protein helps people feel fuller for longer than carbs or fat
So here's how I made my protein blend and one of my favorite ways to consume it! This makes a lot! So if you want to set some ingredients aside for other purposes - of course, do that. I made one big batch for ease and convenience so every time I go to make a smoothie or this yummy treat, I always have it handy. Make sure you have a couple large tight sealing jars or one large one like you see above in my first photo.
The protein blend
1 lb Spirulina - I use this brand
2 lb Chia Seed - I use this brand
1 lb Lakanto Monk Fruit - I use this brand, it's powdered and blends well
*optional Activated Charcoal
(I say optional because while charcoal is amazing for its ability to detoxify and draw toxins out of the digestive tract, it may be preferred, to keep this separate from other foods and especially medications of any kind. To be on the safe side, don't consume charcoal with any other supplements. For some basic information on charcoal explore this).
You can cut these quantities in 1/2 or 1/4's for smaller batches.
Mix everything together and place in a tightly sealed jar on the counter. You could also reuse the Naked Pea jar that the protein comes in, fit it all fits! I use a scoop that is roughly 15 grams per scoop and I use 2-3 scoops per recipe.
And now for the fun mash up!
Katie's Sunbutter-Maple Superfood Protein Balls
1.5 Tbsp Sunbutter (sugar free)
2 Tbsp Lakanto Keto Maple Syrup
~ mix these two together to get a thin paste
add 2 scoops of the protein blend and stir, using a splash of alternative milk such as Almond or Macadamia to work the mix into a thick sticky dough. Scoop using a tiny ice cream scoop or spoon into small golf ball sized balls and place on a plate. Refrigerate until you plan to eat. Sometimes I skip the whole process and just eat the mix by the spoonful - no judgement!
enjoy xo kT
